Solar Tim Tams: Arnott’s biscuit factory adds solar and battery to go 100 pct renewable

Arnott’s Factory Goes 100% Renewable with Solar and Battery Project

Arnott’s Factory in Sydney Goes Green with Solar and Storage Project

Australia’s trend of embracing solar power extends beyond beer, wine, and rum to include tea and biscuits. The Arnott’s factory in Sydney is making a significant shift by moving away from fossil fuels.

Partnering with Sungrow, a global leader in inverters and batteries, along with local renewables company CleanPeak Energy, the factory in Huntingwood is set to install a 4.95MW/11MWh solar and storage system. This project is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in Australia, catering to the needs of the 44,000-square-metre manufacturing plant that operates round the clock.

Efficient Production and Sustainability Goals

The Arnott’s factory in Huntingwood runs five automated production lines, churning out approximately 53% of the group’s total biscuit output. With over 400 employees, the factory produces a staggering 56 million kilograms of biscuits annually, including popular varieties like shapes, Jatz crackers, and the iconic Tim Tam.

Arnott’s ambitious target is to transition the Huntingwood facility to operate entirely on renewable energy by 2029, aligning with their sustainability objectives.

Renewable Energy Integration

CleanPeak Energy’s solar and battery project is designed to deliver more than 7GWh of renewable energy, supported by Sungrow’s SG4950HV-MV inverter. The intelligent O&M system of the inverter ensures precise energy management, optimizing performance under varying weather conditions.

Philip Graham, CEO of CleanPeak Energy, expressed confidence in Sungrow’s capabilities, highlighting the selection of Sungrow for this significant solar/battery project. The aim is to provide Arnott’s with secure renewable energy at the Huntingwood facility, guaranteeing that the beloved Tim Tam Biscuit is produced using renewable energy for years to come.

Joe Zhou, APAC vice president of Sungrow, emphasised the company’s commitment to supporting Arnott’s sustainable energy consumption through their expertise in grid support and renewable energy technology.

This collaborative effort signifies a major step towards sustainable manufacturing practices and underscores the importance of transitioning to renewable energy sources in the industrial sector.
