Australia Post Launches Solar and Battery Upgrades in Queensland
Australia Post has initiated the implementation of solar, battery, and LED lighting enhancements at various locations throughout Queensland. This initiative is part of the company’s extensive energy efficiency programme and decarbonisation strategy, which involves a significant financial investment.
Although Australia Post has not disclosed specific details regarding the nature of these upgrades, they have indicated that the changes are expected to result in a reduction of over 1,720 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Initial upgrades have already been completed at facilities in Coorparoo and Logan City, with work now underway at Mansfield. Additionally, eight more sites, including Bundaberg, Darra, Helensvale, Mt Isa, Nerang, Noosaville, and Rockhampton, are set to receive similar energy efficiency improvements in the coming months.
Commitment to Sustainability
Richard Pittard, Australia Post’s chief sustainability officer, expressed that these upgrades demonstrate the organisation’s dedication to providing more sustainable services while also bolstering local industries. He stated, “These energy upgrades are not only helping us reduce emissions but also build momentum as we target net zero by 2050. This investment also supports our local communities by engaging regional contractors and suppliers.”
Broader Sustainability Efforts
The energy efficiency upgrades are part of a broader array of sustainability initiatives that Australia Post is implementing across Queensland. This includes the introduction of 605 electric delivery vehicles (EDVs), further showcasing the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
