Consumer’s Guide to Rooftop Solar and Batteries: Your Ultimate Decision-Making Tool
Australian households and businesses interested in installing rooftop solar panels and battery storage now have a valuable resource at their disposal with the launch of the federal government’s Solar Consumer Guide. This online guide, initially proposed by federal Labor in 2022, has been developed in partnership with experts from the Australian PV Institute (APVI), the University of NSW, and various industry stakeholders.
The primary objective of the Solar Consumer Guide is to simplify the process of selecting the most suitable rooftop solar and battery system for individuals and businesses. The government aims to assist Australians in reducing their energy bills and transitioning to cleaner and more affordable energy sources.
Comprehensive Guidance for Solar and Battery Buyers
The Solar Consumer Guide offers a comprehensive step-by-step approach to help consumers navigate the complexities of choosing the right solar and battery setup. It begins by determining the optimal size and design for a solar system and provides tools to estimate costs and potential savings. This process utilises the SunSPOT solar calculator, which was introduced in 2022 through federal government funding and collaboration with APVI and UNSW. The calculator considers various factors such as electricity consumption, pricing, weather conditions, shading, and roof specifications to generate accurate solar and battery estimates.
In addition to the SunSPOT calculator, the Solar Consumer Guide includes a range of new resources to support buyers.
