Donated Rooftop Solar Cuts Living Costs in Disabled Community Housing
In a heartwarming initiative, inverter manufacturer GoodWe and solar power leader Jinko Solar have joined forces with a consortium of companies to donate and install solar systems for two new homes constructed for individuals with disabilities in rural Victoria.
The two residences were developed as part of the Community Living & Respite Services (CLRS) Opening Doors Project, a non-profit organisation dedicated to offering specially designed accommodation for individuals with disabilities.
Commitment to Inclusive Housing
Over the last decade, CLRS has constructed housing for 22 individuals in Echuca, Moama, and the surrounding areas. Recently, the organisation completed its fifth housing project, comprising two brand-new homes.
These two homes are now equipped with donated solar systems, featuring GoodWe inverters, Jinko solar panels, balance-of-system components, and racking from AWM. The professional solar installation services were provided by Ryan Moorhouse of RGM Electrical.
AWM collaborated with RGM Electrical to contribute the value of the Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) obtained through the Australian government’s rooftop solar rebate from both installations back to CLRS.
Empowering Independence
Leah Taffe, CEO of CLRS, highlighted the importance of providing a safe and supportive living environment for individuals with disabilities in Northern Victoria. She emphasised the significance of essential care in helping them achieve personal goals, develop skills, and enhance independence both at home and within the community.
Through the generosity of individuals and local businesses, CLRS aims to continue its Opening Doors project by constructing high-quality, purpose-built homes that are not only easy to maintain but also cater to the specific needs of residents, fostering growth and independence for an improved quality of life.
Sam Barry from AWM in Echuca expressed gratitude for the substantial reduction in ongoing energy costs for the houses, thanks to the installation of the two solar systems. The homes are also equipped with electric hot water systems and induction cooktops.
Dean Williamson, the country manager for GoodWe Australia, commended AWM Echuca for their contribution to CLRS’s commendable work. He also acknowledged the invaluable support from Jinko Solar and RGM Electrical in this collaborative effort.
Williamson reiterated GoodWe’s commitment to giving back to the community through various initiatives and expressed the company’s desire to continue supporting CLRS in their future Opening Doors projects.
