Ban back in place for rooftop solar certificate trading platform

Greenbot’s Rooftop Solar Certificate Trading Suspension Reinstated

Greenbot’s Suspension Order Reinstated by Clean Energy Regulator

An online trading platform, Greenbot, has had its suspension order reinstated by the Clean Energy Regulator, preventing it from generating certificates through the federal government’s rooftop solar rebate scheme.

In June, the CER “permanently suspended” Greenbot’s registration, citing non-compliance with the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) regulations.

Court Proceedings

Greenbot challenged the decision, leading to the Federal Court granting a temporary stay on the suspension order in early July. However, the Court lifted this stay on October 18, re-enabling the CER to enforce the SRES suspension.

Current Status

As a result, Greenbot is now unable to produce renewable energy certificates under the SRES. Nevertheless, the Court has maintained the stay on the termination of Greenbot’s participation in the Solar Panel Validation (SPV) Initiative, allowing the platform to continue its involvement in the initiative during the ongoing legal review.

The CER’s investigation into Greenbot’s operations, particularly its online trading portal and mobile app used for certificate generation, led to the suspension. The regulator stated that Greenbot was deemed unfit for compliance with the scheme’s requirements.

Greenbot, on the other hand, expressed disagreement with the CER’s actions in June and expressed confidence in resolving the issue. With a history of facilitating numerous installations and STC creations, Greenbot assured its commitment to upholding high standards and supporting its stakeholders.

For any queries or concerns, Greenbot’s team remains available to assist participants affected by the suspension.
