Solar powered villages and India’s 10 million solar roofs program

India’s Solar Revolution: 10 Million Roofs

Exploring India’s Solar Revolution

Recently, I had the privilege of joining a delegation to India organised by the Smart Energy Council and Austrade. The purpose was to showcase how our technology could contribute to achieving Prime Minister Modi’s ambitious goal of installing 10,000,000 rooftop solar systems in just three years.

India, with its 1.4 billion people, is a vibrant blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge technology. During my visit, I had the opportunity to engage with various facets of Indian life, from discussing solar policies with government officials to witnessing the impact of solar energy in rural healthcare.

Exploring New Delhi

Our journey commenced in New Delhi, a bustling metropolis home to 37 million people. We were warmly received at the Australian High Commission, where the collaboration between Australian and Indian leaders to foster growth and energy security was emphasised. The visit to PowerGrid, a key player in India’s energy sector, provided insights into how our technology could support the integration of solar energy.

Immersing in Ahmedabad

Travelling to Ahmedabad, PM Modi’s home state, offered a glimpse into the heart of India’s solar revolution. From engaging with local businesses to witnessing the vibrant markets, the experience was both enriching and eye-opening. Visiting Gandhi’s ashram underscored the juxtaposition of spirituality and urban life in India.

Empowering Communities

One of the highlights was witnessing a fully solar-powered village, where solar panels not only provided income but also transformed lives. The visit to an AgriSolar facility showcased the transformative impact of solar energy on agriculture and healthcare, demonstrating the potential for sustainable development.

As we concluded our visit and prepared to return to Australia, the significance of collaboration between nations in advancing solar technology became evident. The journey reaffirmed the pivotal role our technology can play in India’s ambitious solar initiatives.

Special thanks to the Smart Energy Council, Austrade, the Australian High Commission, and all those involved in making this insightful and rewarding experience possible.
