Solar giant notches up new efficiency world record for perovskite tandem cell

JinkoSolar Sets New Efficiency Record in Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells

JinkoSolar Achieves Record-Breaking Efficiency in Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells

Chinese solar manufacturing giant, JinkoSolar, has made a significant breakthrough in the development of its N-type TOPCon-based perovskite tandem solar cells, achieving an impressive conversion efficiency of 33.24 per cent. This announcement, made at the end of May, marks a substantial leap over the previous record of 32.33 per cent for the same type of tandem cells.

The new conversion efficiency record was validated by the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This achievement adds to JinkoSolar’s impressive track record of setting world records in solar cell efficiency, having done so 26 times in total.

Dr. Jin Hao, the Chief Technology Officer of JinkoSolar, expressed pride in this milestone breakthrough, emphasising the company’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries through continuous innovation. He stated, “This milestone breakthrough once again highlights JinkoSolar’s determination to continuously push the boundaries through strong technological innovation capabilities.”

The record-breaking perovskite tandem solar cell utilised Jinko’s N-type high-efficiency monocrystalline TOPCon solar cell as the bottom cell. Several key innovations contributed to this achievement, including ultra-thin poly-Si passivated contact technology, novel light-trapping technology, an intermediate recombination layer with high light transmittance and carrier mobility, and efficient surface passivation technology using hybrid materials.

JinkoSolar underscored the significance of this breakthrough in showcasing the viability of TOPCon as a mainstream solar cell technology. The company’s relentless focus on scientific research and technological advancement is aimed at fostering a greener and more sustainable energy landscape.

As JinkoSolar continues to deepen its research and development efforts, it aims to play a pivotal role in shaping a more environmentally friendly energy ecosystem. The successful development of the perovskite tandem solar cell represents a significant step towards achieving this goal.
