Solar installer banned after criminal conviction
The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) has taken the decision to permanently suspend the operations of a solar installation company following a criminal conviction in the Perth Magistrates Court.
In an announcement made on Friday, the CER revealed that it had suspended the registration of Tanway Engineering Pty Ltd under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000. This suspension means that the company is no longer authorised to create STCs.
The CER further stated that Tanway Engineering had failed to fulfil its responsibilities and obligations as a registered agent under the Act, leading to the permanent suspension of the company.
Additionally, accredited installer Rohit Jafal faced consequences from the CER, receiving a reprimand and having his license revoked for a period of up to three months.
During this license suspension, Jafal will not be permitted to conduct any installations under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). Furthermore, any installations carried out during this period will not qualify for small-scale technology certificates (STCs).
These actions were taken following the criminal convictions of both Tanway Engineering and Jafal in the Perth Magistrates Court. Jafal admitted to submitting electrical safety certificates for solar installations without the necessary electrical contractor licence, instead using Tanway Engineering’s license.
The Court found Tanway Engineering complicit in the misuse of its license, leading to fines for both parties involved in the wrongdoing.
Last year, another solar installer faced a similar ban for falsifying electrical safety certificates, indicating a crackdown on fraudulent practices in the industry.
