Queensland Opposition Promises Cost-of-Living Relief for Renters Through Solar Scheme

If the Queensland opposition led by Liberal National Party leader David Crisafulli wins the upcoming October election, renters in the region could benefit from a revamped solar scheme aimed at providing cost-of-living relief. Crisafulli has pledged to reintroduce a solar-for-renters plan that was initially tested in 2019. The announcement was made during a cost-of-living debate with Premier Steven Miles, where Crisafulli engaged with 12 audience members selected by the Queensland Council of Social Service.

The proposed supercharged solar-for-renters scheme is designed to offer short-term financial relief, with the full details set to be disclosed in a budget reply speech later this year. It is anticipated that the initiative could save an average rental household over £500 annually on electricity bills, offering grants of up to £2500 for the installation of solar panels on rental properties.
