Australia’s only solar manufacturer launches new generation of PV panels

Tindo Solar Launches New Walara PV Panels in Australia

Tindo Solar Unveils New Generation of Walara Solar Panels

On Monday, Tindo Solar, the sole manufacturer of solar modules in Australia, announced the launch of its latest range of Walara solar panels, which come in two variants: 440 watts and 475 watts, boasting module efficiencies of approximately 22 per cent, depending on the specific panel.

The newly introduced Tindo Walara G4P Series Solar Panels represent the ninth generation of solar modules produced at the company’s cutting-edge manufacturing facility located in South Australia. The 440 W panel is available in a standard format, while the 475 W variant features an all-black design.

Enhanced Efficiency and Durability

Both models have seen an increase in busbars from 10 to 16, enhancing their overall efficiency. They utilise N-type TOPCon technology, which Tindo claims provides “fully optimised output, efficiency, and durability.” The 440 W Walara panel achieves a module efficiency of up to 22.6 per cent, whereas the 475 W all-black module offers a slightly lower efficiency of up to 21.9 per cent.

These panels have successfully passed a stringent independent qualification test, ensuring their resilience against cyclones, hail, damp heat, and a thermal range from -40˚C to 85˚C.

Commitment to Quality Manufacturing

Tindo employs a comprehensive seven-point process to guarantee “Zero-Defect” manufacturing, resulting in an impressive fail rate of just 1 in every 200,000 units—approximately 200 times better than the industry standard.

Richard Petterson, CEO of Tindo, stated, “We cater to the premium solar panel market, which means our design and engineering teams have incorporated the highest levels of reliability, efficiency, and durability into these Walara panels.” He added that the new panels are a culmination of Tindo’s in-house engineering and R&D, enriched by insights from installer partners, external research teams, and leading technologies from global supply chains.

Petterson noted, “The development of the two latest panels in the Walara series is a direct reflection of the feedback shared by our customers.”

Warranty and Availability

Each panel is supported by a 25-year limited product warranty and a 25-year limited performance guarantee of 87.4 per cent. Currently, only the Walara 440 W panel is available for order through Tindo’s selected distribution partners, with the 475 W all-black solar panel expected to be available in September.

In the Kaurna Warra language of the traditional owners of the Adelaide Plains, “Walara” translates to ‘intelligent’, ‘smart’, and ‘bright’. Petterson expressed pride in the design and manufacturing achievements of the Tindo team, stating, “That’s what we set out to design and manufacture.”

Funding for Expansion

The launch of the new Walara solar panels follows Tindo’s recent success in securing $34.5 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) aimed at scaling up domestic production at its Mawson Lakes facility in South Australia.

This funding, part of the federal government’s $1 billion Solar Sunshot Program, will enable Tindo to increase its annual production capacity from 20 to 180 megawatts (MW) by introducing advanced automation and expanding its product offerings to include premium N-type solar modules.

Darren Miller, CEO of ARENA, remarked earlier this month, “As the only homegrown solar module manufacturer, Tindo brings unmatched local expertise to the table. With deep knowledge of our labour market and manufacturing processes, they’re uniquely positioned to help scale up and strengthen our solar PV industry.”
