Australia’s only solar panel maker to supply nation’s first “net-zero” water pipeline

Tindo Solar to Supply Australia’s First Net-Zero Water Pipeline

Tindo Solar Secures Major Supply Deal for Queensland Pipeline Project

Tindo Solar, Australia’s only manufacturer of solar panels, has announced a significant agreement to provide over 50,000 of its solar panels for the Bowen Water Pipeline project in Queensland. The delivery of these panels, which will collectively generate 30MW, is scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2027, powering pumps and machinery along the 182-kilometre pipeline.

Richard Petterson, CEO of Tindo, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “This is a real compliment to our 60 employees who make the highest quality panel in Australia, right here in Adelaide. It’s a vote of confidence in Australian manufacturing.”

Details of the Bowen Water Pipeline

The Bowen Water Pipeline consists of a 116-kilometre main line and an additional 66 kilometres of branches, designed to transport water from the Burdekin River to Bowen. This water will support the local horticulture and agriculture sectors.

Sean Brown, the pipeline’s director, shared his enthusiasm for the project, noting, “We are delighted to be fulfilling our goals of utilising Australian-made solar panels.” He further highlighted the project’s ambition to foster economic growth in Australia by employing local expertise and equipment, including Australian-made high-density polyethylene (HDPE) piping and advanced optic leak detection technology.

Australia’s First Net-Zero Pipeline

Heralded as Australia’s first “net-zero pipeline,” the project is anticipated to create up to 1,200 jobs and contribute an estimated A$300 million to the economy annually. Final approvals for the pipeline are expected by the end of this year, with construction set to commence in 2026.

Export Deal with Vietnam

In addition to the pipeline project, Tindo Solar has recently secured an A$8.4 million contract to export 15MW of its rooftop solar panels to Vietnam. This deal marks a notable shift, as most solar panels are typically manufactured in Southeast Asia, making this export agreement particularly significant.

Under a five-year partnership with construction firm Thanh Do Australia, Tindo’s 430W rooftop panels will be integrated into various infrastructure, real estate development, and clean energy initiatives across Vietnam.

Recognition for Tindo’s Solar Panels

In a busy period for the company, Tindo also received recognition from consumer advocacy group Choice for its “Karra” solar panel. Among 15 panels evaluated in a recent test, Tindo’s Karra was rated as the best performer in the Australian market, exceeding its rated output by 7W.
